MCA-Kc education committee ramps up its commitment to its members"

The past three months have seen MCA-KC’s Education Committee make significant strides in its effort to define, evaluate, and provide educational offerings and programs that achieve the committee’s primary goal: Promoting the importance of ongoing education for the success of participants at all levels within the union mechanical contracting industry by assisting our members in their efforts to improve the performance of their companies and develop their staff into the highest caliber of worker.

To that end, the committee has pledged to establish a permanent Education Committee, of which the initial members include Bill Adams (Chairman), President of The Fagan Company; Brent Hawley, Vice President at Midwest Mechanical; Steve Janasz, Associate Director of MCA-KC; Kollin Knox, President of P1 Group, Inc.; Bob Looman, Executive Director of MCA-KC; and Robert Rimel, President of All State Mechanical.

This committee has also developed a more structured approach, meeting more frequently (once a month) and creating individual task forces for specific initiatives. One such task force, led by Robert Rimel, recently developed a new Education Stipend Program. This program rewards members who actively participate in the local MCA-KC organization and activities by granting them “points” that they may redeem to pay for costs they incur associated with attending any MCAA, MSCA, PCA, or NCPWB event. For details on this program, please visit MCA-KC’s website at www.mcakc.org

Another initiative recently undertaken by the committee involved the development and distribution of an Executive Education Questionnaire seeking input from the membership to determine the types of educational offerings that the MCA-KC could provide to help improve the talent in all organizations. The questionnaire surveyed members regarding their preference on educational topics, time of training, training fees, online training, etc. Based on the results of this questionnaire, the committee is developing a follow-up survey with additional and more targeted questions, using those responses to establish the educational agenda and direction.

Finally, MCA-KC has scheduled a number of educational offerings for its members for the remainder of 2009. You may find a schedule and description of these offerings in this newsletter and on MCA-KC’s website homepage at www.mcakc.org.
