What made you interested in this industry?
I trained as an educator in Drafting, Metal Shop and Wood Shop. No jobs were available in the December after graduation and I needed a job. I went to work as a Draftsman for a Mechanical Contractor in Wichita, Kansas, Central Air. I loved the challenges and it seemed like there was something different happening and to learn every day. K-State Graduates’ Chyann Ebert, Paul Bird, and Colin Fitzgerald take part in the Bill Snyder Family Stadium Tour. There was a great turnout for this event which included the K-State Student Chapter led by Tom Logan. What made you interested in this industry?
My dad was a Carpenter before becoming a Farmer. I would get a real sense of pride helping andcompleting small projects with him. It’s because of that experience, that I knew I wanted to do some kind of construction when I grew up. I took a construction course in High School which led me to my first internship as a Drywall Finisher with Hi-Tech Interiors in Manhattan. I enjoyed the work, but knew it was not something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. While at K-State, I joined and became active in the MCAA Club. I had the privilege of attending the MCAA National Convention in Maui where I met Mike Kotubey. Mike offered me an Internship and I knew that this was my opportunity for something new and challenging. Two years and two projects later, I am Full-time employee of MMC Contractors. (more…)
