Mechanical Blueprint Reading & Estimating 101

Construction drawings can be difficult to understand yet are an integral part of the construction industry. Being able to read and understand construction drawings is a fundamental skill for anyone involved in the construction industry. Regardless of whether you work in the field or in the office knowing how to read blueprints is a must. Understanding specs and plans is essentials to estimating, job planning, and working together on project. In this workshop, you'll learn the fundamentals of reading blueprint drawings and participate in a scavenger hunt activity with your classroom team competing against other groups to find a variety of items within the contract documents.
In this workshop, you'll learn estimating basics which while performing a piping take-off and calculating a bid. You'll also learn effective bid strategies and how to calculate key risk indicators. This course incorporates interactive activities based on real-life field situations to help estimators polish their estimating skills and learn the basics required to produce successful mechanical estimates and bids.

Troy Aichele has a B.S. in Construction Management, an A.A.S in HVAC and Refrigeration Design, and has worked in every facet of the business as a plumbing contractor for nearly 30 years.  Through Aichele & Associates, LLC, he teaches national workshops focusing on project management, managing and forecasting labor, estimating, change orders, blueprint reading, and how to perform water audits.  He’s also a former MCAA Career Development Committee Chairman and was an adjunct professor at the University of Washington for 17 years.
