Understanding Mechanical Systems

Thursday, March 20, 2025
8:00 AM to Noon

This seminar is designed for entry-level project managers to gain essential knowledge of both HVAC and plumbing systems. Participants will learn how these critical building systems work together to provide a healthy, comfortable, and productive environment for occupants. Participants will gain valuable insights into how these systems integrate within building design and construction processes.
Through a blend of theoretical instruction and hands-on activities, attendees will explore various mechanical and plumbing systems, equipment, and common materials used in construction. The seminar emphasizes practical knowledge, including plan and specification review, equipment identification, and the vital role of the commissioning process throughout construction projects for both system types.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this seminar, participants will be able to:

  • Define and use basic terminology for both HVAC and plumbing systems
  • Identify various HVAC and plumbing equipment and systems, explaining their primary functions
  • Describe fundamental methods for heating, cooling, and ventilating buildings
  • Recognize and explain the basic components of air conditioning and water distribution systems
  • Interpret HVAC and plumbing plans and specifications used in construction projects
  • Understand the importance of the commissioning process in mechanical and plumbing system installation
  • Identify common piping materials and components used in both HVAC and plumbing systems
  • Introduction to Mechanical and Plumbing Systems
